Gain the upper hand on safety.

Employers are required by OSHA to ensure employees use appropriate hand protection when they are exposed to hazards such as severe cuts or lacerations, severe abrasions, punctures, chemical burns, thermal burns and harmful temperature extremes. Since there are so many hazards in the workplace that impact worker’s hands, it can make finding the correct pair of gloves difficult. According to OSHA appropriate hand protection should be selected based on the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the hazard and potential hazards identified.

GREAT WHITE® 3GX® SEAMLESS KNIT DYNEEMA® DIAMOND BLENDED GLOVE

The right protection so you won’t be left in danger

There are many types of gloves available today to protect against a wide variety of hazards. OSHA categorizes gloves as follows:

  • Sturdy gloves made from metal mesh, leather or canvas provide protection against cuts and burns.
  • Fabric and coated fabric gloves are made of cotton or other fabric to provide varying degrees of protection from dirt, slivers, chafing and abrasions, and can have slip-resistant qualities.
  • Chemical-resistant gloves are made with different kinds of rubber: natural, butyl, neoprene, nitrile and fluorocarbon; or various kinds of plastic. Generally, the thicker the glove material, the greater the chemical resistance. Beware: thick gloves can impair grip and dexterity, having a negative impact on safety.

What’s your fit?

Be sure you and your crew inspect your hand protection before each use. Keep an eye out for defects that would make them ineffective, such as tears or punctures. Inspections can be done visually, or by filling the gloves water and looking for pinhole leaks. Are your gloves discolored or stiff? They may have become defective from standard wear-and-tear, or chemicals they have been in contact with. Any gloves deemed to be ineffective should be discarded and replaced. When using chemical-resistant gloves, be sure to take extra time to inspect prior to reuse, taking into consideration what chemicals the gloves may have absorbed.
